Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN P)?
An FDN P is trained to act like a health detective using functional lab tests, detailed client history, and lifestyle review to identify hidden stressors in the body. Instead of chasing symptoms, we investigate root causes and build a plan that restores function through diet, rest, exercise, stress management, and targeted supplementation.
How is this different from going to my doctor?
Traditional medicine often looks for disease and relies on medications to manage symptoms. FDN takes a different approach. We search for healing opportunities before they become major medical issues. While I do not diagnose or prescribe, I help uncover imbalances and create a practical plan so your body can do what it was designed to do: heal itself.
Do you replace my doctor?
No. I do not replace your doctor or provide medical care. Instead, I work alongside your existing providers by offering education, coaching, and functional testing insights. Think of it as having a wellness investigator on your team to connect the dots and give you actionable steps.
What types of issues can FDN help with?
FDN focuses on restoring overall function, so it may be helpful for people struggling with:
Low energy and fatigue
Poor sleep or disrupted shifts (common in first responders)
Digestive issues such as bloating, reflux, or constipation
Hormonal imbalances and stress related symptoms
Autoimmune challenges
Chronic aches, pains, or inflammation
Trouble recovering from stress, illness, or injury
What are “functional labs”?
Functional labs look at how your body is working, not just whether a disease is present. Examples include:
Hormone panels to evaluate stress and balance
GI testing to assess gut health, infections, or imbalance
Food sensitivity testing
Metabolic panels to measure energy production and nutrient function
These labs give us clues your regular bloodwork may not show. They are not diagnostic. They are investigative tools that guide personalized protocols.
How long does it take to feel results?
Every case is different. Some clients feel improvement within weeks, while others need several months to restore balance. Most FDN programs are designed for at least three to six months because the body heals at its own pace.
What is included in the “Cold Case” Program?
The Cold Case Program is a three month investigation into your health. It includes:
Functional lab testing tailored to your needs
A detailed review of findings and clues
A personalized plan addressing nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted support
Ongoing coaching sessions to track progress and adjust as needed
Do you work only with first responders?
No. While I specialize in supporting first responders because I have lived that life myself, I also work with anyone who is struggling with chronic symptoms and wants to find answers. My mission is to serve first responders, their families, and anyone ready to get to the bottom of their health challenges.
Is this covered by insurance?
At this time, functional lab testing and FDN services are not covered by insurance. Payment is made directly to Health Det. Sherri. Many clients find this investment worthwhile, as it helps them avoid years of trial and error and unnecessary medications.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. All sessions can be done virtually, making it convenient no matter your location or schedule. Labs are shipped directly to your home with easy instructions.
What can I expect at my first appointment?
Your first session is the First Response Call, a free 20 minute chat to discuss your health concerns, answer questions, and see if working together is the right fit. From there, we decide whether a deeper case investigation with labs and coaching is best for you.
